DAPITAN CITY, ZAMBOANGA DEL NORTE—The Southern Philippines Agri-business and Marine and Aquatic School of Technology (SPAMAST) attended the 61st PSAE Annual National Convention and the 9th International Conference and Exhibition, organized by the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers (PSAE), last April 25-29, 2011, with the theme “Agricultural Engineers: Providing Solutions to the Challenges of Climate Change Towards Sustainable Agro-Environment”. The event was to celebrate the 22nd Agricultural Engineering Week.
A Memorandum of Agreement was drafted between SPAMAST, represented by the President, Dr. Irvin C. Generalao, and the Sangguniang Barangay of Kapatagan, represented by its Punong Barangay, Hon. Juanito O. Morales, during the latter‘s special barangay session at their barangay hall, Kapatagan, Digos City.
The barangay officials of Kapatagan expressed an interest to establish a tertiary education to serve the educational need of the community, and being the sole state college in Davao del Sur, SPAMAST responded to this need by establishing the SPAMAST Annex School Program in Kapatagan, with the help from the local officials.
To produce quality graduates—that is the vision of SPAMAST and its Presi-dent Dr. Irvin C. Generalao.
However, something is blocking the fulfillment of this vision: there is a need to strengthen the freshmen student’s Mathematics and English knowledge to equip them with necessary skills fit for college life.
Thus, the College designed an intervention: the Bridge Programs on Mathematics and English.
